hollow jimloveless: Aching bones in my arctic cold skin, they rattle and shake against the floor. I lay myself across my convictions. I sever them with fishing line and bailing twine in this limbo limp town. The dust feels old on the cigarettes we rolled with forefinger and thumb. Beautifully numb in the womb of ignorance thrived our love. You stood as an angel over my wounds. You were a statue crumbling from within. I was no stranger to your heart.
Those songs in the night, I sang with delight. The days of wonder I hold closely, as a mother to her child. Oceanic waves of weeping desire you cast upon me... beautiful in its normalcy; purest in its infancy. Now the queen of apathy reigns throughout a dying land. What became of her man? What became of this wonderful plan? It ended as it began so effortlessly.
Your empty love upon my empty page in an empty land of flowering sage; we stood together unashamed. We loved each other then withered away. Tragedy, for the life of me, is the ending we now know. It crept in as an eight legged demon and consumed the silken ties binding our hearts and thighs. The sweat no longer glistened. The breath no longer sang. We merely listened to the hollow of our pain.
Re:hollow ShesLeavingHome: The whole thing is absolutely beautiful.
~My two favorite parts:
"What became of her man? What became of this wonderful plan? It ended as it began so effortlessly."
"It crept in as an eight legged demon and consumed the silken ties binding our hearts and thighs. The sweat no longer glistened. The breath no longer sang. We merely listened to the hollow of our pain."
Wonderfully poetic prose that effortlessly connected with so many things I am feeling.
Re:hollow teacherwriterguy: I'd echo the second line that SLH picked out - that one totally breaks the mold into something REALLY cool!
I think one of the things that you do so well is to get past cliche into interesting word use - "We merely listened to the hollow of our pain" is something we've all felt in its entirety, and yet we haven't heard it put that way before.
Great poetry is like that.
