The Divorce Diet

The Divorce Diet ostia: I've heard people jokingly refer to the weight you lose when your marriage breaks up as "the divorce diet," so it seems that losing weight is really common in these circumstances. It's been really dramatic for me...I lost almost 25 pounds in the 5 months since my husband left me, and I didn't have that much weight on me to begin with: I went from about 135 to about 110, and I'm 5'4".

I'm just curious about whether you guys have had similar experiences. Did you lose weight, and if so, how much?

I'm just grateful that my body responds to stress the way it does: when I'm truly stressed out I can't eat, but I can sleep like a champ...I use it as an escape. The opposite reaction-- not being able to sleep, but wanting to eat everthing in sight--would have been *much* worse, and I know that happens to some people....
Re:The Divorce Diet brokenman: Well, I found out about my wife cheating on me on Sept 26th. I weighed 265 lbs. Today, I weighed in at 234 lbs. So what is that? 31 lbs in 28 days. Sheesh!
Re:The Divorce Diet newman4ever: Well...I lost weight, but it was intentional. At first it was because of stress, but I started working out and dieting to be more healthy. Probably one of the best things to come out of my divorce is that Im now in the best shape of my life. Went from 223lbs. to 170lbs and I go to the gym 5-6 days a week now, plus I quit smoking after having a pack a day habit for over 20 years.

If it wasn't for the gym, I probably would've gone insane from my divorce. Difficult experience, but had a happy ending.
Re:The Divorce Diet ChrisJane: I dropped 35 pounds in 3 months. I was 180 when I asked for a divorce and now I'm down to 145. No more size 16, I'm loving those 8's!

I didn't even realize what I had dropped until I came back to work after being off all summer. When my pants hung and I needed a belt ;D

Seems when I was with him I ate the candy and washed it down with a cold pop when I was depressed. Now that he is gone I find myself always keeping busy and rarely buying those candy bars or pop.

Re:The Divorce Diet Safetykc: Oh boy, Do I know about the divorce diet. My STBX told me she was leaving on August 8th. I then found out about the affair. I lost 20 pounds in the next 6 days from non-eating/stress.

Over the next 2 months I lost another 35. So about 55 punds so far. I am down to 225 from 280 and look and feel great. Mostly it was diet and excercise after the initial shcok of the X leaving.

I lift weights every day which helps. I hadn't worked out regularly in years. So divorce diet or whatever you want to call it saved my butt.

One of the few silver linings to come out of this whole mess. :P
