Re:Sleep help??? sourpuss: all of the above.
and you should make your bedroom a place where only sleep takes place.
the theory is if you have a tv, computer, ironing board, etc in there, your mind will have things to be active about.
remove all distractions, or at least as much as you can, and it helps to trick your mind into thinking "this is the part of the day when i sleep".
Re:Sleep help??? marfanoidus: Melatonin - its cheap, at just about every place that sells vitamins and such (health food stores, WalMart, Target, etc.) You can google it to read up on it, or http://www.melatonin.com
Its the hormone your brain produces for sleep, and yes it controls the biological clock (if what is said about it is true).
You may have to play around a bit to find the dose that works best for you, but it changed my life. I used to have insomnia pretty bad, but after I took melatonin for a while my clock seemed to change and now I sleep much more regularly and soundly. I worked at a health food store for several years, and this is one of only two products I truly believe in.
It doesn't work for everyone (what does?), and you can expect lucid dreams (not nightmares) when you first begin taking it. Source Naturals or Twinlab are the brands that work best for me.
And avoid caffeine after 2 pm.
good luck!
Sleep help??? MCO552: Does anyone have any good remedies (healthy) for getting a good night's rest? The last time we went through our 3 month separation, I relied heavly on Tylenol PM to sleep at night but I find that I feel like a zombie the next day because I didn't get 'real' sleep. This time around (when we're actually getting a divorce in less than 20 days), I would like other ideas.
I've heard exercising and possibly reading books are 2 suggestions. Anyone have any others???
Thanks!!! ???
Re:Sleep help??? minneapolis: Exercise was the only thing that worked for me. And you don't have to work out like a fiend, just take a brisk walk for a half hour. For a while I drank a beer before I went to bed and while it helped me get to sleep, I inevitably woke up at 2AM unable to get back to sleep, so I can't recommend that.
Good luck.
Re:Sleep help??? Samarra: Excercise is great...I do an hour on the treadmill. Other than that...try not to eat anything 3 to 4 hours prior to going to bed. Do not read, watch T.v. or anything other in your bedroom besides sleep (OK sex is GOOD!)
If anyone else has any ideas Ild be happy to hear them too.
Signed...a fellow insomniac.
