Re:Suggestions for topics of good conversations buckeye: I had this same issue when I first started dating. I found some great ones online...about 4 pages worth! Since its so long I could e-mail it to you if you want. Here is a partial section of them...
Family and Friends
Where did you grow up?
What games did you like to play as a child?
Do you have any pets? Describe them.
When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up? Have you reached your goal?
When you were a child, who was your hero?
How do your closest friends describe you?
Tell me a favorite childhood memory.
How much do you tell your friends about what's going on in your life?
How important is family to you? Describe your relationship with your family.
Did you go to prom? Did you have a good time?
Describe your social life. Are you a party person? Or do you like more intimate gatherings?
What do you say to strike up a conversation at a party?
Name one of your favorite activities for a Saturday night.

Re:Suggestions for topics of good conversations jimloveless: try to take note of what he's wearing. just a pair of glasses by themselves can be a conversation... and their right there under (or over) your nose. "are those perscription? you know, my dad had the oldest glasses in 3 counties... blah blah blah" i always like to work something personal into it, to sort of share something about myself... or encourage that same sort of sharing from the other person.

"i like that sweater! it looks good on you. where did you get it?" "really? i was thinking of checking that place out over 4th of july weekend... do you have any plans for the 4th?"

see? not only a conversation starter, but a compliment as well.

i think the deeper conversations, such as philosophical/relationship/etc will come naturally in their own time.

Suggestions for topics of good conversations Pumpkin: If you find that you are interested in someone you recently met and want to get to know them better, what are some good topics to discuss/ask them about? Maybe we can get a list going. I just don't want to have happen what happened the other day where I wanted to talk to this guy, but didn't know what to say/ask to get us talking more. I kind of went blank a few times and it seemed like he did, too. I guess I will start the list :

job/career
family
schools they went to, where they grew up

OK - anyone have any other good topics to discuss when getting to know someone?

-Pumpkin
