I have been in a long distance relationship for a while now...my man lives in Toronto (I know, I know, I feel bad for him during the hockey season and all ;D) so that is a 6 hour drive...a drive that we cannot often make, because we both have kids at home, obligations, scheduling nightmares...etc... (not as bad as the distance between Alabama and Ontario, but believe me, I feel your pain...)
...sometimes we are weeks without seeing each other. And when we have been spending time together for a little while, it becomes even harder to suddenly fall asleep next to a big fat VOID, to have no one to talk to when all H*** is breaking loose and my ex-hubby is having me served with papers filled with pure lies, and my toilet has just exploded, and my kids are trying to give each other head injuries...
I love every moment we share, but sometimes I say to him: all these goodbyes, the eternal return of the goodbye, it's killing me! ???
but you know, this summer I have had an epiphany of sorts, and now I am determined to find the way to actually live with him...I am turning pain into action...I AM going to make it happen, and I believe time and destiny will show me the way (i know, i am sooo corny sometimes--too much Oprah I guess!)...
ALSO, don't you find that in some ways, this makes us truly appreciate the person we love, because we don't "sweat the small stuff" but instead intensely live every moment together...i know that when we finally move in together (and/or get married 8), i will never, ever EVER take him for granted. Ever...
the other plus, of course, as you know, is that the sex absolutely ROCKS...(did I say that??? :-X)
