Making Dinner for my guy.....

Making Dinner for my guy..... bamboo: OK, so I need some help on how to make this really special.  I have been dating D for about 5 months.  I am cooking him dinner (for the first time) this weekend for his brithday.  I am already nervous enough about this b/c I am not the worlds best cook, and he is a great cook and has already cooked me dinner before.

So, any advice on how to make it all special and go smoothly?  Should I just keep it casual or make it romantic, should I buy him a gift also since its his birthday?  I don't want it too seem like I am trying too hard!  After dinner we might go down to the boardwalk in Atlantic City and walk around for awhile.

Any suggesstions or ideas... please!!!!
Re: Making Dinner for my guy..... lemondrop: Hi

First off - congratulations!

Ok - I vote that you should get him a gift but nothing too extravagent.  Something cute and thoughtful but not too expensive - and a card - definitely a cute little card.  :  )

For dinner, I say do something a little out of the ordinary.  If you guys normally order pizza or keep things casual then dress it up a bit.  Maybe light some candles... play some nice misuc... and make his favorite foods (not sure what he likes but homemade lasagna can melt the heart...)... maybe a little wine... and definitely a good salad (feta cheese, olives, etc - yumm) - ok - so I like italien food - lol - but make him what he likes...

And lastly I vote that you buy a small store bought cake for two - it's easier than baking from scratch and it still shows you care.

Things will go great - best wishes!

Re: Making Dinner for my guy..... Suddenly Single: Hey!  Sounds fun!  I was thinking lasagne too or even easier...cook some spaghetti noodles...toss in the sauce...top it with cheese and put in oven till cheese melts...bread.....OOOHHHH the BEST BEST BEST  for dipping bread in is...put on a plate...olive oil, balsamic vinegrette, fresh basil, fresh garlic and parmesan cheese......YUMMY.  Good salad...NOW I"M HUNGRY!!

For dessert...it may sound childish but in my experience...guys have liked it...cupcakes.  Find out what his favorite cake and frosting is and do cupcakes...I also like the idea of buying a cake for two...that is romantic and sweet!

Re: Making Dinner for my guy..... bamboo: Well, for the food I asked him what his favorite meal was and he said Chicken Alfredo... so I will make that with a salad and some cheesy garlic bread.  I also bought some wine and I was thinking of making an Italian dessert - tiramsu.  I am actually better at making desserts than cooking "real" food, so I think I'll be OK with that.

I will try and figure something out to get him... he is a musician trying to get a record deal (he is actually going out to LA this fall to possibly sign a contract)  Wonder what an aspiring musician would like?  Guys are so hard to buy for!!!!  its easy for girls... flowers or jewelry!

How in the heck are you old friend?? BIG HUGS!! And glad to see you have a new guy ;D That dinner sounds fabulous..making my starving tummy rumble! As for a gift ..who is his favorite artist do you know? Go to a vintage record store and get him an old album or poster..or...hmm..ooooh..be really cheesy and go buy a bunch of gold stars at a party supply store and hang em up and tell him its because "you know he's gonna be a STAR someday ;)"  If he plays an insturment as well as sings..you could always get a t shirt or something with that on it.. Good luck and let me know how it goes!!

crossing my fingers for you!
