furnace won't shut off

furnace won't shut off alonewith2: .....so here I sit wondering why it feels like 80 degrees in my house.....well because it is!!  The kids were playing with the thermostat, and now I can't get the heat to turn off!!!  Does anyone know how to do that.  I keep calling people, but noone is home to help.....and I really can't afford to have someone come out and fix it.  Is there something simple I could do?

Maybe it just feels like it wont shut off because it got so hot in there??

what kind of air conditioning do you have??

crank it up and leave the house for a bit and see what happens..

if all else fails find a neighbor or someone to check it for you

Re: furnace won't shut off alonewith2: Thanks, Pisces for your concern.  I do not feel any heat coming out of the registers anymore so I'm hoping that means it stopped.  I had originally turned the thermostat down all the way, but the little lever thingy on the bottom was all messed up. and I'm not sure what that does.  I'm going to have the STBX look at it later when he comes over to see the kids.
Re: furnace won't shut off hardened_heart1970: depends on the furnace. if it wont shut off on the thermostat, go to your furnace, and usually there is a red box near the furnace or an entrance, to shut the furnace electicity off, and then when you need it, turn the master back on......

DO NOT touch any wires.....i did that once, not fun at all. had curly hair for a while.........
Re: furnace won't shut off alonewith2: Thanks, smo-kin for your reply.  I'm not really wanting "curly" hair either which is why I won't touch it!!  Why can't furnaces have plugs?  I really wish I could just unplug it and be done with it!!!
