Midrin sigkapgirl: Is anybody else on here taking Midrin for migraines??

My doctor just switched me over to it, and I was wondering how important it is to take it at the "onset" of the migraine?

Thanks :)
Re: Midrin sigkapgirl: That's my problem! I can't take it if I'm going to be driving, and seeing as how I have classes and such, I'm driving a lot. I can't always take it at onset (and I'm supposed to take 2 and then one every hour after that). Plus, I've had this sucker for four days now, so I've kinda missed the whole onset thing!

Its just been difficult lately because even though I know mine are light triggered (headlights, computer monitor, etc.) I have to study, so I'm kinda screwed.

I used to take Imotrex, and I already like Midrin better... the onset thing just ain't workin' though!

Re: Midrin sigkapgirl: I've taken it before. The thing is, when I take it, I'm generally going to sleep anyway. That's what seems to work best for me anyway, with or without meds. My doctor DOES know that I have school and that I'm six hours away from anyone I know and therefore I have to drive myself everywhere.

*sigh* Guess I'm lucky that my migraines aren't completely debilitating. My moms and sisters are so much worse than mine.

I've taken 2 the past couple of nights and then gone to bed and its not helping... I'm probably just totally stressing myself (yet another lovely cause!)
Re: Midrin Mooneyes: I started having Migraines this summer. Dr. prescribed this to me, but I didn't take it due to sleepiness.  I haven't figured out how to function with a migraine yet.
Re: Midrin daisyjane02: I love Midrin!!
Yes it makes you sleepy and doesn't totally stop the migraine but will skip many of the phases i go through!!  It is VERY VERY important to take it at the onset of the migranie..the first flash of an aura..take the pill!!  It may stop it from happening at all.  Mine are started from light disturbances too.
I've tried Imitrex and Zomig (which put me in the hospital) neither of which helped at all.  During my hospital stay my neurologist put me on tegratol (an antiseziure med) [there are soo many meds like this beta blockers, antiseziures, antidepressiants with the side effect of migraine control and prevention and also a few new ones that are designed specifically for migraines"> to help prevent the migraines and I had to be migraine free for 6 months b4 I could stop taking it.  It took a year but my migraines slowed and finally stopped.  There are other meds that a Dr. can prescribe to help prevent a migraine too.  You might have to take them on a daily basis but a pill once a day to prevent a migraine is sooooo worth it!!  Much better than losing a day of studying due to tunnel vision, nausea and vomiting and killer pain!!  Talk to your Dr....SOON!! There are so many treatments to help make your life pain free!!
Also,,relax when they happen.  Let your shoulders droop, breath slowly and deeply, find your happy place.  It won't make it go away completely but will help.  I have 2 kids and have even taught myself to deal with the tv and lights..our of neccesity..My kids are good to me they understand how bad those migraines are and usually make pb&j and watch a DVD.
And just so you know, I'm not a Dr or play one on TV ...I've just spent ALOT of time studying and researching how to not let a migraine take control!!
    Good Luck!!!
