Three songs for a confused person ostia: I've been having a lot of very strong, complicated mixed feelings lately. I was listening to these two albums by Dido and by the Cranberries over the weekend, and a couple of songs captured some of the various contradictory things I've been feeling these days.
I'm still trying to figure out how I can manage to still be in horrible pain because of my husband's infidelity and the loss of that relationship, while also being a little bit relieved on some level to be free of him because of all the difficulties we were having, AND also being thrilled about the new relationship I'm getting into while simultaneously feeling somehow terrified and ambivalent about the prospect of getting involved with someone new...but I'm managing it somehow...quite a trick... ???
Don't Think of Me
So you're with her, and not with me
I hope she's sweet, and so pretty
I hear she cooks delightfully
a little angel beside you
So you're with her, and not with me
oh how lucky one man can be
I hear your house is smart and clean
oh how lovely with your homecoming queen
Oh how lovely it must be
When you see her sweet smile baby, don't think of me
When she lays in your warm arms, don't think of me
So you're with her, and not with me
I know she spreads sweet honey
In fact your best friend, I heard he spent last night with her
Now how do you feel
When you see her sweet smile baby, don't think of me
When she lays in your warm arms, don't think of me
And it's too late and it's too bad, don't think of me
Oh it's too late and it's too bad, don't think of me
Does it bother you now all the mess I made
Does it bother you now the clothes you told me not to wear
Does it bother you now all the angry games we played
Does it bother you now when I'm not there
When you see her sweet smile baby, don't think of me
When she lays in your warm arms, don't think of me
And It's too late and it's too bad, don't think of me
Oh it's too late
oh it's too bad
don't think of me
Hunter
With one light on in one room
I know you're up when I get home
With one small step upon the stair
I know your look when I get there
If you were a king up there on your throne
would you be wise enough to let me go
For this queen you think you own
Wants to be a hunter again
Wants to see the world alone again
to take a chance on life again
So let me go....
The unread book and painful look
The TV's on, the sound is down
one long pause, then you begin
Oh look what the cat's bought in
If you were a king up there on your throne
Would you be wise enough to let me go
For this queen you think you own
Wants to be a hunter again
Wants to see the world alone again
to take a chance on life again
So let me go, let me leave
For the crown you've placed upon my head feels too heavy now
And I don't know what to say to you but I'll smile anyhow
And all the time I'm thinking, thinking
I want to be a hunter again
Want to see the world alone again
to take a chance on life again
So let me go....
I want to be a hunter again
Want to see the world alone again
to take a chance on life again
So let me go, let me leave, let me go.....
Dreams
Oh my life is changing every day
in every possible way
And oh my dreams
it's never quite as it seems
Never quite as it seems
I know I felt like this before
but now I'm feeling it even more
because it came from you
Then I open up and see
the person falling here is me
a different way to be
I want more, impossible to ignore
Impossible to ignore
And they'll come true
impossible not to do
Impossible not to do
And now I tell you openly
You have my heart so don't hurt me
You’re what I couldn't find
A totally amazing mind
So understanding and so kind
You're everything to me
Oh my life is changing everyday
In every possible way
And oh my dreams
it's never quite as it seems
'cause you're a dream to me
dream to me
Re:Three songs for a confused person Spectrum: God, Hunter is MY song.... I had that nickname in college, and I used to listen to this song last fall and summer and cry, wondering why my marriage was going down the tubes, and wishing I could just be free.
I haven't heard it in a few months, and to suddenly remember that- geez. I need to listen to that song again. It always seemed like such a hopeful song to me- a woman on the verge of being free, about to conquer the world again.
Dido is the best.
Spectrum.
Re:Three songs for a confused person picadilly: Hey Ostia, I love those songs, you've made me go looking for all my Cranberries CD's. :D
Here is one off of Dido's Newest CD that I've been listening too, I hope you have the CD too, it's really good music.
See The Sun
I'm coming round to open the blinds
you can't hide here any longer
my god you need to rinse those puffy eyes
you can't lie still any longer
and yes they'll ask you where you've been
and you'll have to tell them, again and again
and you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day
but I promise you you'll see the sun again
and you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness
and I promise you you'll see the sun again
come on take my hand
we're going for a walk, I know you can
you can wear anything, as long as it's not black
please don't mourn forever, she's not coming back
and yes they'll ask you where you've been
and you'll have to tell them, again and again
and you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day
but I promise you you'll see the sun again
and you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness
and I promise you you'll see the sun again
and I promise you you'll see the sun again
do you remember telling me you'd found the sweetest thing of all
you said one day of this was worth dying for
so be thankful you knew her at all
but it's no more
and you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day
but I promise you you'll see the sun again
and you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness
and I promise you you'll see the sun again
and I promise you you'll see the sun again
