Beauracratic BS

Beauracratic BS alonewith2: I was hired for my coding position Sept 2004.  I took this position because it was daytime hours, steady schedule, and it came with paid time off and other benefits.  I felt that those things outweighed the fact that I would be making less money.  After the 90 day waiting period, my benefits never showed up.  My boss kept telling me that it would be there on the next check.  So after another month, I confronted her again.  Finally, she looked into it and found out that "I was confused and this position did not come with benefits."  (I wasn't confused!  She told me during the interviewing process that there were benefits.)

I told here that I would be actively looking for another job because this position no longer held appeal to me without the benefits.  So she came up with an idea on how I could work an extra 5 hours a week which would qualify me for benefits.  This idea was to train me to abstract our cancer cases.  The idea was approved and the process of finding someone to train me was started.  However, a trainer was not found soon enough and the years cases studies had to be outsourced at that time.  During this session, the hospital decided that we didn't have enough cases to warrant the cost of training me, and they decided to keep the cancer studies as an outsourced position.

The next month, my boss was doing an audit on physician charges for the ER.  It was found that the physicians in the ER were undercharging for their services.  So my boss once again came up with a plan to give me those extra 5 hours a week which would qualify me for benefits.   This new idea was to have me train to do the physician charges and then once my training was complete, I would take over this task.  Once again this idea was approved by the hospital administration.  The difference being that this time it was right when the new fiscal year started so I was definitely given the extra 5 hours and my benefits did start.

That was on July 1st.  I have been working the extra 5 hours and have been collecting my benefits, but a trainer was never secured for me so I have not been training on how to do the Physician charges.  Then last week my boss did another audit of the physician charges and realized that the accuracy rate had dropped even lower than it had been previously.  She reported her findings to the Corporate Compliance department and was told that none of the charges were allowed to go through until my boss audited every single one.

So now all our charges/coding has come to a standstill.  My training was finally slated to start in 2 weeks.  However, once the hospital President heard of this news, she has decided to "outsource" this job as well.  She stated that the cost of outsourcing this job would far outweigh the amount that we are/have been losing due to the under charging of our physicians.

So now I am really PO'd!!  The email stating the above went out on Friday.  It stated that the decisions would be made on Monday.  If I don't get this training and this position, then I will definitely be looking for another job!  I'm so sick of them changing thier mind all the time.  If they had spent the money in July to train me, then we wouldn't be having this problem right now.  Instead they wait until it has become a major problem and now are forced to outsource the position.

I'm really ticked off by all of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
