Re: quilting dumpling: i quilt and sew, also. i think the biggest disappointment in this divorce is losing my dedicated sewing room! well, one of the biggest disappointments.
i just moved and all of my stuff is in storage. i think that i am storing more fabric than all of my other personal possessions combined! glad to see other young quilters out there.
btw- i made my stbxh a quilt as a wedding present. he used it the last time he slept on the couch and claims to not remember where it came from or its significance. what an idiot!
Re: quilting Mooneyes: HEY I collect fabric too. I went to a nice store recently. When they asked if they could help me I said no I was just fondling the fabric.. The lady laughed because she has done it too.
Right now I have 2 quilts laid out in my living room.. one is a small wallhanging that i've been on the quilting part for about 10 years.. it is my first quilt and still not fiinished.. probably because it is all hand done. I've started and finished 3 baby sized quilts. The big top that is laying on a chair in my living room is a 9-batch from a block swap. There are blocks from all over the world. I was making borders for it. I think the main thing I need to do is sew on the borders and then it will be ready to put together. I need to clean up my house though enough to do it.
It is a pretty ugly quilt and I was going to give it to my ex. However the borders have improved it. I made a bunch of stars with orange centers and blue points.. the borders are orange and blue.. the background and sashing is tea stained muslin. (I describe this so well because i can see it from where i'm sitting). I need to finish it up so I can move on from these things. Both of these quilts are tied to my ex in a way. If I can finish them, then I can move on to projects that aren't related to him. And I can play in my stash once again.
I haven't done any quilting in a few years. I found when I had a separate dining room that I did alot more of it, because I had room to spread out.
Hurray I'm glad someone is talking about some of my favorite topics. FABRIC FONDLING.
Re: quilting alonewith2: My mom once made an "ugly", too! She had all this corduroy fabric, and the colors were nice.......separately! When she put it together, we all thought it was the ugliest quilt we had ever seen! Now that it's been around for a while, it has grown on us..... ;D
quilting 1st fiddle: I am into quilting, or at least some days I think I am other days I think I just collect fabric... :D
Re: quilting alonewith2: LOL! I can totally picture that! My mom used to have a fabrics and craft store. It still stands with all the "goods," but it hasn't been open in several years. Most of my sisters have gone and raided the store, and they now have bolts of fabric lying around their houses!!
I never got into quilting even though I wanted to learn. My grandmother used to have quilting classes at the store, but it was always during school hours so I could never attend. My aunt is a manager at a Rag Shop in NJ and for Christmas she would always send a huge box filled with odds and ends of craft projects. As we got older, she stopped doing this thinking that we would no longer be interested. I was very disappointed to say the least.
I'm the youngest of 6 kids, so sometimes I feel that my family forgets that I didn't get to learn it all when I was younger!! I have taken up crocheting, and I would love to try knitting, too. My mom always discouraged us from learning to knit because she thought crocheting was better. But it seems she has changed her perspective on this because she has bought herself a knitting kit and is learning to it!
