I am 41 and my girlfriend is bipolar. Moody as moody can get and depressed often. She takes prozac and it helped for a few months. But she is 35 and it looks as if she is getting worse. Our relationship is on the edge. I have done all I can to save it. She goes from loving me to ignoring me to needing me to treating me like dirt. I am a happy go lucky guy. Her sweet side is all I could ever dream of in a woman. I told her I felt it was time to see her Doctor again. She went off. Then a few hrs later she agrees but in a round avbout way. Then she gets mad again. Then she calls again and tells me she wants me and us to be happy and she wants me to set up the meeting with her doctor. We are both emotionaly drained. We also have her son with us who is 12 and has explosive behavior disorder. His meds are working well. I love her so and we are both co- dependent upon eachother. We live productive professional lifes. But she has nearly lost her job twice from calling me durring work. What should I do? ???[move"> [/move">
Check out Borderline Personality Disorder...
My ex was just that...
It is mis-diagnosed a lot of times by medical doctors and it is a realtional disorder per se
Look it up on the net and see if it applies...
My guess is you find it does
I was blown away when I read about it...
If she has it then the Meds will help but there is no cure
Bi-Polar is similar but what you are describing is probably not Bi-Polar...That is what my ex was for years until they found out what it really was...

Classic BPD...The call it the Push/Pull
I hate you...Don't leave me
mental illness sadgirlwhyme: My ex/boyfriend (I do not know the staus of our relationship. it changs hourly and I havent talked to him in an hour) is bipolar. He went through a cycle in 1002 for 3 months then snapped back on his own. Turned back into the loving sweet man I adore....Then in October something happened so bad I cant explain it. He is depressed, angry, confused, insomniac, manic , dirty and confused all at once. Its the saddest thing to lose a loved one due to mental illness. I cry all the time and beg God to help his brain to make the right chemicals.
When he is in his sweet mode I am on top of the world, life couldnt be sweeter. We get along great, always laughing and having fun. But when he gets sick he treats me like dirt, breaks up with me, but always calls to keep his option open to come back. He will not move away from our home.
I gave him an ultimatum to see a mental heath dr so for 3 days now he is pretending to be well! He acts all happy and and silly and I can tell in his eyes he is faking it. Its only a matter of time and he will breakdown again. He stops going to work and dissappears and comes home just crazy looking.
I am so sad.
Re: My girlfriend is bipolar and it hurts my heart dre: I am bipolar and it seems like alot of people are really down because of thier bipolar partners. Mabey yall are depressed and need anti depressants. I dont say Im manic depressive cause of my spouse. I just am the way I am. If you stopped blaming your depression on your spouses mental illness and causing them to carry your burden along with their own illness mabey you can adress your own issues and be happier. Nobody is perfect just because Im bipolar doesnt mean everything is my fault. Your guy is acting happy and all you want to do is say he is fake and crazy looking. I wonder why his eyes look so disappointed. To the first guy you admit to having a codependant personality disorder also so take responsibility for some of the problems cause thats not healthy. My husband is abusive and I left him. He would say he had to beat me cause I was acting crazy and he had to calm me down. So Im the only crazy person there? ???
Re: My girlfriend is bipolar and it hurts my heart sadgirl951: My little brother, who will turn 21 soon, was just diagnosed being bipolar. He wasn't born with it. The doctors say because his best friend died, that he developed this bipolar disorder. He will be nice one day and very angry and upset the next day. With his medication he is slowly becoming the brother I once had. Yet, I am hearing a lot of people on this site say that they are divorced because their loved one is bipolar. I am starting to think that it can be true because I am seeing this disorder up front. Although, on the other hand, there could be other reasons why people break up in a marriage. Yet, I think that the bipolar thing has a lot to do with it.
Hope that helps. Sorry if it didn't. :-)
