The Squid and the Whale
So, this one's a winner. Great acting, interesting and well developed characters.
The movie really showed some of the more complicated dynamics of a failing marriage. Obviously I never sympathized with Laura Linney's character, she was a selfish bitc# that lacked the character to bow out of her marriage in an honorable manner.
The children's characters were interesting as well. They were facing puberty and issues of acceptance while watching their family fall apart.
I liked how the movie never got too intense, it just kind of flowed along in a mellow fashion.
Great ending.
Blazin' gives it a thumbs up.
edited: I just saw that gg started a Squid and Whale thread awhile back. Oops. I'll leave this here just as well i guess.
Re: The Squid and the Whale Lumpy: bump
Re: The Squid and the Whale lodaca: Thanks Lumpy,
I deleted my post.
blazin, I agree good movie. Get's my thumbs up as well. I had a hard time sympathizing with both of the adult characters. He was a selfish a$$ as well. I thought it was interesting how the adults both used the kids for thier own selfish needs.
Nice think about the movie is that there always seemed to be some sort of comic relief. The laughing at yourself kind of comedy.
Re: The Squid and the Whale YellowJacket: You could easily see how neither could live with the other. He was so petty and snipped about every little thing and she couldn't see outside of her own circle of interest.
Re: The Squid and the Whale lodaca: YJ,
Agree,
Great character development. I couldn't stand either of the adults, however I still wanted to know the story. I think that is hard to do in movies these days.
The stuff with the kids was great. It was a harsh but real look at what divorce can do to children that are involved.
