He wants $10,000 from me LittleMinnow: Ok so my stbxh was the one that wanted to file for divorce. He never filed, so I had to. We have no joint assets, no joint accounts. No joint purchases during our marriage. He moved into my house (fully paid for) my ranch (fully paid for) never contributed a dime to any household bills. Should have been cut and dry divorce. However, he said that he was going to get a lawyer, so I had to spend $3500 to retain one and file. Since he has a son, I moved out of MY house to my parent's house, and let him stay there as long as he pays the bills because I didn't want to traumatize my stepson. So he's living in my house with my furniture and not paying rent. NOW he thinks I should pay him $10,000 'for things he cannot take with him' however he won't list what those things are. He never put anything worth that kind of money into the property. At most $2500. Anyway he has retained a lawyer, and now I can't kick him out of the house. So I'm displaced. Oh my God. This sucks so bad. He's such a jerk. What kind of ball-less wonder sponges of a woman for 2 years then asks for that kind of money. He's the one with the job, not me. Yet I supported him and his son all that time and managed to keep all my debts and bills paid off. Now the lawyer is saying that I may be responsible for half of all his debts...WTF?!!! I want to kill him. He has no integrity no dignity. And he's 20 years older than me and supposed to be such a manly man. Whatever, he is totally a loser. Anyway, I'm wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else?
HELP!!! I so want him out of my house now that he is being a total prick, but the lawyer says there is nothing I can do. We'll see about that. I'm tapping into my anger, and it's going to floodgates are open. Stupid Motherfu**er.

Re: He wants $10,000 from me newts: O.K, doesn't matter whether he has retained a lawyer or not, I know you don't want to traumatized your step son, however, it's time to return to the house when your ex has left to take his son to school and change the locks, when he returns make sure you have his and sons belonging packed up in the driveway. The house is in your name, if he can't prove that he has contributed to the household bills and repayment well then he no entitlements, a defacto (this is in Australia can only claim rites when they can prove that there has been a constant contribution towards household bills etc... So spend an extra couple of thousand dollars to obtain a lawyer and get this man out of your life forever, I would rather spend the money on the lawyer than pay him any money - harsh, however, reality.
Re: He wants $10,000 from me burningbird: Please contact your lawyer and fill her or him on what is happening.  Some states have some funky laws about what becomes marital property. I hope he does not get away with any of your money.
