Help me understand this guy! 2good4this: Ok, so I have this friend that I've known since I was 13. In high school, we both had a little crush but since we were involved with other people nothing ever came out of it. A few months ago he looked me up on classmates and e-mailed me. That night we went out and had a great time. We kissed (that's it!) and ended up hanging out a few more times. He had just ended a relationship and was verbal about not wanting to jump into anything right away, which I totally respect and understand. I also think the fact that I have two kids is a little scary for him (he's 28, never married, no kids). So things kind of dwindle and a few weeks later, I hear he has this new girlfriend. I'm fine but feeling a little confused-maybe it was the kids! Then, out of nowhere, he pops back up and says he wants to fix my car (I got into an accident 3 years ago and have been driving around with a dented bumper b/c I haven't had the $600 to get it fixed). He says it's pathetic that no one has taken the time to fix it and he insists. So he fixes the car and that's it! Doesn't want to hang out, still has the girlfriend, and I'm left wondering what to make of it...just being nice? Has feelings? And what should I do? Say thanks and let it be or try to pursue something? He is a great guy and I would be interested but I don't want to be pushy. Advice, please!

Fendann: If you're going to pursue, I would do it as a friend, and NOT as someone looking for a date.  It was very nice of him to fix your car, even though it was not his responsibility.  That suggests that he's still interested in being near you, even in as simple a matter as friendship.

Call him up and ask him if he wants to go do something fun.  Make sure that he knows you're not looking to intrude on his love life, or his girlfriendmay tell him to take a hike.  See if you can think of something to do that involves everyone, like his GF and your kids.  That way you are putting it right out up front that you're not trying to interfere, and his GF can see that.  It builds a stronger relationship between you and him, plus opens up a few avenues toward the future as well.

I could, of course, be talking completely from my arse and not know what the hell I'm talking about......even I don't know sometimes....

Not that he is the same as my ex but normally when my ex did that then things were not going so well with her new "Sweetie"...

Hence I was the backup guy

I realized this and cut her off totally...

That was the end of it

I'm not telling you to do that as his intentions may be different but just do what I did not do...
