5yr old plays rated M xbox game incoherentlonghorn: Obviously, I am ecstatic that my s2bx allowed my son to play Riddick (hehe Rid_d*ick) (rated M) on his xbox all week. This is only one of the many, many, many ways we disagree in raising children. But OH I chose him, oops.
Heres the converstaion I had with my son:
Me:Have a fun week with dad?
5yrold: Yeah, I played Ridd*ck all week.
Me: Oh REALLY, what did you think?
5yrold: It was really fun, I killed people all week, I did a good job.
Me: All week, and you think thats ok?
5yrold: Oh mom, I kill people all the time, its not a big deal.
Me: *needing a drink at this point*
WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
If I am correct, don't you have to be 18 to even purchase a rated M game? I only rent/buy/allow him to play E...not even T or anything else, but M?????
Has anyone ever added a clause in the divorce decree stating that say til 12 years old that rated M games and rated R movies? I obviously, would rather that age to be higher, but hey compromise.
HE IS 5!
There is no point confronting the s2bx, because I'm obviously over protective not letting my son play games where he sneaks up on people, slits their neck, and then wallows in blood, but thats me. Been there done that...may have to disagree and protest for several years without success.
Any ideas? And yes my son is in therapy and is really behaving well after transition day.
Re:5yr old plays rated M xbox game Safetykc: You know my thoughts on this sweet stuff. >:( Ugh...
All I can say is B is 5... 5 5 5!!!!! >:( Not 15, not 12, not even 8 for god's sake... 5!!! I am so sorry you're ex is a dweeb... :-[
Just keep setting the good example for you're son and when he is with you play age appropriate games and show age appropriate movies...he is a kid and with a jerk like you're X showing him the ultra-violent stuff on his time, he will be exposed to it...all you can hope for is to balance it out long term... So sorry it is this rough and he doesn't see anything wrong with a 5 year old that still get's scared and has nightmares sneaking up on people and slitting their throat. What's next....beer and cigarettes to make a man out him? Or something worse? I would make a redneck joke, but I know it is no joking matter and how much you love your son. Not sure if you can get him for contribution to the deliquency of a minor, but it's a nice thought....sigh.... :-[
I know you told me he wants to take him hunting to kill and skin deer and I still think 5 is a little young to be hunting and skinning animals when you have never been exposed to that...Why he insists on taking away his "innocence" of childhood I have no idea... :'( We are only kids once...why expose him to killing and death, and violence so early...it makes no sense...well, considering you're ex is a complete and utter violent a-hole who needs to be neutered...it's to be expected I guess...
Hopefully someone else with kids has had something similar go on with their Ex's, inappropriate movies, games, and can advise...
Miss ya KF,
Safety :-*
Re:5yr old plays rated M xbox game ChrisJane: My son is almost 11 and he isn't allowed to play that game. How would a judge look at it? I would think if you had a judge that was a parent with good values they would tell him that is just WRONG! there are many good children rated games his dad could let him play.
The hunting thing, 5 is to young in my book. I didn't let my son hunt till last winter, course we were so noisy the deer had EVERY chance to get away ;) so no worries of what would have to be done to them after the kill.
Now watch those Redneck Jokes, I am a little bit of a redneck myself Safetykc!
Re:5yr old plays rated M xbox game incoherentlonghorn: Come on CJ, half my family...okay 2/3's of my family qualifies as rednecks. Get in line. Heehehehhaehe.
Re:5yr old plays rated M xbox game Runehawk: It really depends on the game, IMHO. Rid*ick or any other Doom-style shooter would be a little strong for a 5yr old, agreed, but I have no issue letting my 4yr old daughter play "Dead Or Alive Extreme Volleyball" - a T&A fest wrapped around a simple volleyball simulator: she *loves* playing virtual dress-up with the swimsuits and (despite the fact that they all speak in Japanese), she's gone and made up personalities and relationship stories for each of the characters on her own...
Its rated M for the T&A aspects, but otherwise there's no violence of any sort - and when she's playing, Daddy doesn't mind sitting nearby and watching eyecandy for a while. A Highly Recommended game. - r
