Went to Europe - FINALLY!!
.

Went to Europe - FINALLY!! justmenow: This didn't happen "today" per se, but in August... Let's just leave it at "Something wonderful happened". I went to Europe for two weeks (1/2 business, 1/2 vacation) and visited France, England, Germany and Switzerland. It was the most amazing experience ever, considering I'd never technically been out of the US before (sorry Canada, I don't count that as international travel...)

I saw so much over there, so much history, and all the rumors you hear about rudeness and such are all myths. People treat you just fine (even if you're American) if you treat them with respect, if you don't "demand" special treatment, and if you at least try to spit out a few words in the native language. I think that's pretty much true anywhere you go. Belive me, my French and German are just terrible, but I managed to get by. Apparently my English is pretty bad too according to those individuals in the UK! ;)

Anyhow, I had a fantastic time but was glad to get home after 2 weeks. It made me appreciate more some of the things we take for granted here in the US like WIDE roads, stores that stay open past 6pm, FREE refills for your drink, water at your table without asking for it, and cold beverages with ICE CUBES! Haha.

I am *definitely* going back sometime (1) when I get more vacation days, and (2) when I can save the $$ to do so. ;D
Re:Went to Europe - FINALLY!! pauly: That is so cool, congratulations!!
Did you have tea at Buckingham Palace while you popped over?!

Re:Went to Europe - FINALLY!! justmenow: You know, I completely missed London this time, but got the pleasure of seeing your beautiful countrysides, driving on the wrong side of the road, and yes, actually surviving a roundabout or ten!! I just fell in love with the white cliffs of Dover! Here is one sheltered American who was just bowled over by the history in your country and all of its magnificent churches. Your historical landmarks made everything here seem so NEW (even the things we think are "historical")!

I'm not much of a tea drinker, but enjoyed the fish & chips very much! (haha) Still, though, I must admit that France has a bit of a leg up on you still when it comes to cuisine! No offense... ;)
Re:Went to Europe - FINALLY!! pauly: French cuisine....of course!
I think overall is a far more diversified and varied country and so it should it is that much bigger. Many brits leave to join the french culture,I too have been tempted. And then there is of course la sud de france, unbeatable.
