Ignorant katiekieran: This is crazy. My stbx came over last night so that I could get some cleaning done ( we have a 6 month old). He moved out 2 weeks ago, and that's when he also first informed me he was leaving. With our son, how can we not talk? It's just weird. Right when I think I am feeling a little better, he calls and I go back to square one.

He started the paper work yesterday. I will be going back to New Orleans as soon as everything is settled. I don't want to have to come all of the back out here to get my stuff. If I never have to see this place again, it will be too soon.

There may be an issue with agreeing on visitation. If we were going to be in the same area, I'd say come when you want, but we are talking about close to 2000 miles. He expects to fly our son out to Utah at will, even while still an infant. Anyway, that's another topic.

I was wondering, on average, how long will I need to be here for this process? Can I just go home and ask them to mail me the documents? If the divorce is uncontested, is there still a hearing, or any other court appearance? I know that the visitaton issue could quite possibly prolong everything, but in general, how long does this take? Thanks everyone in advance!

Re:Ignorant Kinney26: I don't know about Utah, but in Ohio once you file the paperwork you have one court hearing between 30 and 90 days of the filing and then it is over. You should be able to find out for your specific state on the internet. There are tons of divorce law sites that have all the states different processes.

I also understand what you mean about having to talk to the stbx when you have kids, it is rough and makes it much harder to move on. We have shared parenting so I will be dealing with her and seeing her for the rest of my life. I wish I could just never have to deal with her,but I would never give up my son.
