Summary Dissolution of Marriage Lilly: I have been married for 7 going on 8 months. To make a long story short this marriage was an enormous mistake. I am giving it 6 more months and then I would like to try a separation. I talked this over with my husband and he said if I wanted a separation then he wanted a divorce. Fine by me, I wanted to give this all the fight I had in me, but I guess he doesn't. My question is, has anyone here done a summary dissolution of marriage instead of a divorce w/ lawyers. I read that it is neater, faster, and cheaper. I just wanted to hear from others who have maybe done this. Also, my husband will be in California and I will be in Wisconsin when and if I file. Will he have to travel to WI for anything, or vice versa? We don't really have the money for that.

my divorce was basically a dissolution of marriage. IN CT, where I live, it's a no-fault state (whole nother issue with that!) so I guess they call it a dissolution of marriage instead of a divorce. Thye way mine worked, once the papers were served and the court notified we had a 90 day cooling off period, or get back together period or divide the assests up between the two of you period..then all we had to do was go to court take the stand and answer some questions and that was it.. My ex was also out of state so she had to come back for the court date. As for cheaper, well, not sure about that, we made a pretty good mess of things so having our lawyers as go betweens (since we didn't speak) cost a pretty penny.
