question Jasmine23s: I'm making an appointment for my son with the dr. They want to test him for ADHD. I thought 4 years old was a bit young, but I guess not. I am terrified of putting him on meds, even though I know he needs them. He is also going to be going to counseling. Does anyone else have a kid with ADHD? If so, did you medicate and has it helped much? I don't want my son to be a zombie and I'm scared that's what will happen.
Re: question luvbai: I don't claim any first hand knowledge on this one, but I'll give you my opinion. Take it for its 2 cents its worth!
I work with kids from 3 - 18 on a daily basis, so this is a big part of my opinion! ADHD is over diagonised! ADHD is over used! ADHD in MOST cases is an excuse for teaches, parents, & doctors to use when children act up. What is your child doing that you think he/she is ADHD at 4? My goodness all children are hard at 4, my daughter will turn 4 in May. I think if it were me & I even came close to thinking B(my daughter) had a behaviorial disorder & use every other avenue besides medication! All children at 4 have NO attention span & if they weren't hyper from all the juice & charbohydrates we stuff down them somthing would be wrong! Please Please reconsider medication & look at other options if possible.
Re: question INCT: Jamine,
I too don't have any first hand knowledge, but my girlfriend deals with this on a daily basis, (she is a teacher, Pre-k 4-5 yr olds) she too would agree with luvbai, that meds are over used and that schools force kids down the ADHD road.

Re: question luvbai: AMEN INCT! Thanks for the backup! I could get on a soap box on this one!
Re: question INCT: Luvbai,
I hear it everynight when she comes home. About how another kid was sent for "testing" and now comes back with a prescription..
