School Loans
.

School Loans Driver: I'm wondering how people have handled splitting up school loans.  My STBX and I have been married about 2.5 years.  She came into the marriage with significant school loans and I don't have any.  Am I responsible for half of her school loans?

Also, she has been in grad school throughout our entire marriage, and I have supported her so that she hasn't had to take out any additional school loans.  We own a house with some equity that I would like to keep.  I think the degree she has earned while we were married is quite valuable and equal to her half of the equity in the house.  Will the courts agree with this?
Re:School Loans incoherentlonghorn: I have been advised that my student loans will remain with me even though they supported both of us. All of the loans were obtained during our marriage, so we will see how that goes. I think your safe since she acquired them prior to marriage. I'm going to fight by breaking down what was allocated to tuition and living expenses.

Re:School Loans falling: I was told the same thing as Lone Longhorn. It eats me up because we also used those loans to live off of. Also I could have started paying the loans off years ago, but kept them in deferment so she could have some small extras in life. I’ve asked her to at least pay half of the interest that has accrued, but who knows.
