Sarcasm and humor jen: I was having this discussion with a friend earlier about humor and sarcasm and wondered if anyone else has noticed something similar...
I have always had a good sense of humor, but I have noticed that humor and sarcasm have become particularly good friends to me lately and, as a side benefit, they are also good defense mechanisms. If I can laugh and joke about it, it keeps me from leaving myself too vulnerable... Also, I have become much more direct in my communication, which I think is a good thing, but some of that comes out in my sarcasm, which can have a little more bite to it.
Though I am still pretty diplomatic most of the time and consider others' feelings, lately it seems like I am also laying it all out there alot more, often in a funny/sarcastic kind of way. Very little gap these days between thinking something and saying something...
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed something similar...
Re:Sarcasm and humor favoriteangel2003: MTMO,
I have noticed I have been more sarcastic lately too but only with my stbx. I know it's my anger coming out and I am trying to control it. I have also noticed I am getting a little short and smart with my children too and I am really working on that...it's getting better because they definately don't deserve that.
Are you sarcastic towards yourself or other people....who or what are you directing it at? We all need to watch out if we see ourselves getting like this...it is not good at all. It can be considered verbal abuse and it can hurt just as bad, if not more that physical abuse. So we really need to watch it.
I agree with you as far as using it as a defense mechanism...I certainly have done it.
We need to stop the sarcasm now before it becomes a habit... ;)

Re:Sarcasm and humor OldSchool: Well, the only thing that got me thru was being able to laugh and joke about myself. One of my funniest moments was when my ex came to the house to move her half our junk out. She arrived w/ her aunt, mom and aunt's boyfriend. He had a rusted out Suburban that was filled with his work stuff. So when it came to moving anything big how would they move it. Being the bigger person and having my Ryder truck in the driveway for my own stuff, I volunteered to help them move. Now would she have helped me... hells no!!!! So anyway, it took us about 2 hours to load her crap, and her aunt's boyfriend decided to accompany me to the storage facility.
Now when my ex and I said our vows, her uncle was the preacher for us. His own daughter was to get married that month, and he was going to preach at that wedding also. So I went ahead and told the guy, " Well I hope the uncle goes 1 for 2, since this marraige didn't work out." I wish 'em luck... heh..... the other guy's response. Uh, yeah....
Re:Sarcasm and humor favoriteangel2003: OS,
:o What did you expect the poor guy to say? " Yeah, your are so right!" Too funny!!! I am all for the humor....Sometimes we need to see things with more humor, it helps to lighten the emotional load we carry. :)

Re:Sarcasm and humor jen: Angel,
I am just more sarcastic in general...not really directed at anyone in particular...maybe my running commentary about life....and since I have always been aware of the saracastic side of my humor and that not everyone gets it, I do try to watch it.
The funny thing is that I am not really angry anymore... but I do think I haven't completely refilled the emotional well, so to speak, and so I may be a little low on patience & tolerance sometimes.
But, truly, I have found a newfound appreciation for bizarre coincidence and funny things to laugh about...
