My STBX is an idiot.
.

My STBX is an idiot. tara: Yes, we're friendly, yes, this is amicable, but he's stupid and I'm calling him on it.

1. He apparently attempted to assemble some inexpensive furniture. (So far, so good.)
2. He apparently believed that the way to get all of the pegs to line up and get the shelf to rest against the legs of the rack is not to use a hammer or a mallet or even a phone book, but to throw his entire body weight onto the shelf in the hopes that the pressure will force the pegs into the holes. (uh-oh)
3. Long story short...he managed to fracture a rib.
4. He's now at work ... a 30-minute drive from his apartment ... under the influence of Vicodin. He claims he forgot where he was going on the way back from the hospital, and ended up there.

His GF can't pick him up, because she doesn't have a car. There's no bus. If he can't find a co-worker or basically anyone else other than me to drive him, he said he'd try to drive himself.

Now... normally, I would tell him to just deal with it, it's not my problem (I've been very good about boundaries lately.) And right now I'm having a hard time mustering sympathy for any sort of DUI ticket/arrest he could get... but he's under the influence of narcotics that are affecting him similarly to being drunk (see #4 above), and he could very well kill someone if he gets behind the wheel.

So, I told him I'd come get him if he didn't get someone else by the time I'm out of work today.

I'm so pissed off I can't see straight. I'm not taking him to work tomorrow, nor is the conversation in the car going to be at all pleasant. Or out loud, I think.

Grr.
Re:My STBX is an idiot. Eyelo: Tara,

I know you are pi$$ed and you have every right to be… he should be dealing with his *problem* himself or with his GF…but…the way he hurt himself is just too damn funny. You are correct – he is an idiot. LOL.

Eyelo.

Edited to say: Are you sure he was not hopped up on Vicodin prior to that little maneuver? What the hell was he thinking?

Re:My STBX is an idiot. tara: Eyelo --
The vicodin was a prescription from the ER, and I don't think he would have had any on hand. He could have been drunk, I suppose, but I don't think so.

I always was the handywoman around the house, so his, um, novel approach to furniture assembly doesn't surprise me, but the length to which he took it does.

This would be a flat-out no if the worst that could happen would be a night in jail or being stuck at work for hours...but he could hurt himself or someone else or worse. Right now, it's that someone else that I'm doing this for.
Re:My STBX is an idiot. Eyelo: Tara,

Kudos - you are taking the high ground.

Hopefully, in a day or three, you can laugh your arse off about how stupid a move that was... hell, i am laughing my arse off here and now.

Eyelo.

Re:My STBX is an idiot. tara: Oh, I'm laughing now, even as angry as I am...it's just...

well...

If you had told me when I got married 6 1/2 years ago that in early 2005 I would be driving his estranged butt from his workplace to the apartment he shares with his girlfriend because he's too hopped up on the Vicodin he got because he cracked a rib while assembling furniture ...
;D
