Re:Only in California

Re:Only in California down2basics: Well...oddly enough - our definitions aren't that far off - but tom-boys here are nothing close to "ladies"...they don't wear dresses, they don't have well coiffed hair as well as polished shoes....Here they wear over-alls, tennis shoes and throw mud pies at boys as they pass....

Re:Only in California timetobefree: I am not saying it is offensive...what I am saying is I don't understand the need to put LADY before a sports team name to indicate it is a women's team. Why? Why not assume that the Blue Raiders are female and if you want to refer to the men's team, you call them the Gentleman Raiders? Makes just as much sense as it does currently!

Not to mention, I would assume that the definition of lady does not include women who play sports...sweating and playing contact sports is not lady like at all!!!!

Only in California down2basics: I'm sooo glad I'm not the weird one of the bunch! Ck this out! LOL! Again, from Fox News....

Only in California

In California, activists are complaining that a city parade ban on “low-riders” is culturally insensitive to Latinos, according to the San Bernadino Sun. Redlands, Calif. initially excluded the cars from its annual Cinco de Mayo Festival and Car Cruise, but relented following a barrage of criticism.

Re:Only in California down2basics: and the hits just keep on comin'..............Unbelieveable! What are we coming to?

Nuts

A woman in Columbus, Ga. was so offended by seeing police officers there eating bananas that she has solicited a U.S. congressman’s help in forcing them to apologize, reports the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.

U.S. Congressman Tom Price has sent Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren a letter about the incident and is demanding to know what he’s doing about it.

The woman who complained, Gwen Stewart, won't say why she's offended, only that she saw two officers eating bananas as she passed them on a bus. She says she and others on the bus found the bananas deeply offensive.

Re:Only in California down2basics: ok - this one is from Florida - the ignorance abounds....

(ooops - Hope I didn't offend anybody....)NOT!

Help Us Here

A Florida sheriff’s captain has been suspended and will be forced to undergo diversity indoctrination for using what was described as a racial slur when talking about juveniles in a training class, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

Apparently, the phrase is so heinous that the Sentinel wont even reproduce it, but the officer, Capt. Cecil Garrett of the Lake County Sheriffs Department, said he was unaware of its connotations. "All my life I have referred in jest to kids as crumb snatchers, curtain climbers, tricycle motors, rug rats . . .," he wrote. "I can honestly say I never did that with any intent to harm or offend anyone."

Whatever it was, the phrase so offended two deputies in attendance that they complained and Garrett will be suspended for three days without pay, forfeit a week of vacation and be required to attend within six months an approved course of instruction in cultural diversity or cultural sensitivity.

UPDATE: WKMG is not as squeamish as the Sentinel. The offending phrase was “porch monkey.”
